"We look forward to the valuable perspective (Montag) will provide regarding the complex financial and nonfinancial risks that large global financial institutions face," Solomon said.

At Merrill Lynch, Montag served as executive vice president and head of global sales and Trading beginning in August 2008 and continuing through December of that same year. In addition, he has prior experience working for Goldman Sachs, where he was a member of the company's Management Committee and actively contributed to the company's leadership of the Securities Division across the globe. His responsibilities included serving as co-COO of FICC and co-head of the Securities Division between April 2002 and December 2007, head of Equities Asia between September 2002 and December 2006 and head of FICC Asia and co-president of Goldman Sachs Japan between 1999 and December 2006, according to the press release.
