Lyft is set to partner with driverless tech-maker Motional AD to launch a fully driverless public ride-hailing service in Las Vegas in 2023. 

In a report by Reuters Nov. 9, the companies said the vehicles for the venture would be provided by Motional, a joint venture between Korean automaker Hyundai and auto supplier Aptiv.

This comes as Lyft and Motional have already been working on the pilot program for more than three years in Las Vegas. In December 2020, the companies announced their intent to launch a multi-city robotaxi service across the country by 2023.

While at that time they did not specify which cities would be served first or how many driverless vehicles would be deployed, the recent release states the driverless ride-sharing vehicles will initially be made available in late 2020 for rider feedback.

According to the release, though the driverless vehicles will be based on the Hyundai platform, they will be deployed within Lyft's network.
