TEMPLE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Operation Feeding Friends to be held May 18

Operation Feeding Friends to be held May 18

Temple Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.

As we move through the 2018 spring season, I trust that we will take time to reflect on how blessed we are as citizens of Temple and Belton. Even though we may not have everything we want, many of us have all that we need and then some. As we reflect on the blessings we have received, we have an opportunity to reach out and help others who are less fortunate. This will also help our families express their appreciation through a tangible act of sacrifice and giving.

On May 18th st we are having the “Operation Feeding Friends Food Drive.” The drive will take place between 6am and 8pm on the parking lots of the Extraco Band Branch on 31 st St. and the Walmart on 2305 in Temple and the parking lot of the Walmart on North Main St. in Belton. The drive is sponsored by Extraco Bank, KCEN-TV, and interested parties. The food and money collected in this part of Bell County will be distributed to food pantries in this area. The food and money collected in the Temple area will be equally divided between our four participating food pantries: Churches Touching Lives for Christ (CTLC), St. Vincents DePaul, The Love of Christ (TLC), and Taylor’s Valley Baptist Church. The food gathered in Belton will be distributed through the Helping Hands food pantry. All of our pantries are reporting more families needing assistance and food supplies are running short.

We are challenging families in our area to give an amount of food that will help feed a hurting family of four for a week. The following is a list compiled by a local pantry. These items form the basics for a family’s weekly nutrition. We are asking each family to make the necessary sacrifices to either provide the listed items, available from Walmart for approximately $60.00 or to donate $60.00 to the food drive on May 18th.
