SAN ANTONIO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Selected as first Military Spouse Economic Empowerment Zone

San Antonio Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Feb. 21.

On Tuesday, February 20, your Chamber was honored to host a press conference announcing San Antonio, Military City USA, as the country’s first Military Spouse Economic Empowerment Zone (MSEEZ).

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes, in collaboration with USAA, announced the launch of MSEEZ, which is an effort to address the widespread challenges faced by military spouses as they search for meaningful career opportunities. The program connects military spouses with employers in the local community and a range of employment-related tools and resources.

Data collected through a groundbreaking study, Military Spouses in the Workplace, findings revealed that an increasing majority of employed military spouses claimed a dual income was vastly important to their family, but only 50 percent of military families polled reported having a dual-income status.

Hiring our Heroes is planning a country-wide launch throughout 2018 in order to continue to develop a powerful network of both national and local employers, as well as educational institutions and community resources.

“Military spouses have skills and traits that carry over very well to the workplace, making them extremely valuable, well-rounded employees. In fact, the Chamber proudly employs two military spouses,” said Richard Perez, President and CEO of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.

Your Chamber as well as the entire city of San Antonio, is dedicated to creating a strong military network as well as a rock-solid community for our military families to live, work, and thrive.
