SOUTH PADRE ISLAND: City receives state award for recycling

The City of South Padre Island (SPI) Environmental Health Services Department received an Honorable Mention award in the 2017 Outstanding Recycling Partnership category.


City of South Padre Island issued the following announcement on Feb. 2.

The City of South Padre Island (SPI) Environmental Health Services Department received an Honorable Mention award in the 2017 Outstanding Recycling Partnership category. SPI received this award at the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling’s annual Texas Environmental Leadership Awards ceremony at the Texas Recycling Summit in Austin.

A panel of judges from Texas and beyond chose from a robust group of nominations for seven main leadership awards. There were seven honorable mentions and three volunteers-of-the-year recognitions. The City was honored for an outstanding commitment to recycling and sustainability.

“We are extremely proud of this award and owe a great deal of gratitude to all our business partners, residents and visitors that help keep the Island beautiful by recycling every Saturday,” said J. Victor Baldovinos, environmental health director. “Our recycling program is a great benefit to the community and the environment.”
