WeeKare Pediatrics founder and one of the first neonatologists in the Lake Houston area, Dr. Angel Munoz, will be moving from a hospital-based role to working on expanding his pediatric clinic that he opened 13 years ago in Humble.
Munzo will make the transition from 25 years as a hospital-based neonatologist to working full time in the expansion of WeeKare, a clinic dedicated to pediatric medical care. Munoz is slated to open a second clinic to serve the East Houston, Northshore and Channelview communities.
Munzo, who is credited with establishing the first neonatal intensive care unit at the former Northeast Medical Center Hospital in Humble, has helped in the care of over 40,000 newborns since the opening of the specialized unit.
After receiving his medical degree from National University of Mexico and a master’s degree in public health from the University of Texas Health Science Center, he completed his residency in pediatrics at Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, and completed his fellowships in neonatology at Philadelphia's Albert Einstein Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship in muscle disorders in children at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
Munzo has also been published in the Journal of Pediatrics and has been recognized in more than 100 local business and medical publications.
