New Danville’s annual Tea on the Lawn fundraiser features actress and human rights activist Mira Sorvino.
Guests will put on their finest hats and dresses for the sit-down luncheon which includes a shopping experience at New Danville’s marketplace featuring a variety of hand-crafted goods.
Sorvino, an Academy Award-winning actress, will be the featured guest speaker as she shares her personal life story and her work as United Nations Goodwill Ambassador. Sorvino is also a documentary filmmaker and has long been an advocate for social injustice. She is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Harvard University with a degree in East Asian studies, and as an exchange student, studied in Beijing for a year. Sorvino was also the recipient of two Ford Foundation grants for her research efforts on the conflicts among Chinese and African students which earned her Harvard’s Hoopes Prize for writing.
