The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) recently marked its 100th anniversary with help from the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber helped to mark TxDOT’s years of service with a celebration that included TxDOT’s San Antonio District engineer Mario Jorge and Commissioner Bruce Bugg Jr. of the Texas Transportation Committee. Those also in attendance at the event who made remarks were Hope Andrade, chair of the VIA Board of Trustees and Kevin Wolf, Alamo Area MPO Executive Committee chair and commissioner for Bexar County's third precinct.

TxDOT, which is one of the largest agencies in the state, was formed in 1917. The department is responsible for close to 80,000 miles of Texas state-maintained roadways.

The department has had to work with Texas’ growing population, now over 27 million, to help meet the state’s needs for safe highways and roads.

TxDOT is currently planning projects to help prevent and reduce traffic congestion and the Chamber is committed to supporting the department’s future projects as well as its funding. The Chamber is also working with state and local legislators as an advocate for the TxDOT.
