A recent City Council decision in San Antonio is slated to give a 5-acre parcel of downtown land a facelift.

Announced Feb. 2, the San Antonio City Council greenlighted a deal between Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corp. and ZH Downtown Development Co. to add “residential dwellings and hotel rooms, retail and office space, public parking, and green space,” a news release said.

The plan has the backing of area business officials. During his testimony before the Council, Richard Perez, president and CEO of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, said the development would add tax revenue and serve as “another great step in the revitalization of downtown,” the release said.

With construction starting in July, the new space should be finished by February 2021.
