The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce's Chamber Foundation awarded $100,000 in scholarships to 11 rising leaders of the community as the Ed Whitacre Leadership Scholarship Program recognized the city's young talent at the Chamber's annual gala Wednesday.
“This year’s recipients represent a great cross-section of our community to include first-generation students, parents returning to school to complete their educational dreams, innovators and a future member of our military,” Chamber President and CEO Richard Perez said. “These scholars will help move our future forward with their ingenuity, innovation and grit.”
The scholarship recipients were Iliana De La Cruz, St. Mary’s University; Youngsil Whipple, St. Philip’s College; Atenas Moctezuma, San Antonio College; Emily Braun, Texas Lutheran University; Faith Deckard and Alexandra “Sasha” Faust, Trinity University; Ramil Rodriguez, University of the Incarnate Word; and Wesley Greene, Venkata Anisha Guda, Paul Hamilton and Matthew Mussenden, University of Texas at San Antonio.
In addition to the nine $10,000 and two $5,000 scholarships, the scholars will be paired with mentors who will help with the student's professional development and growth over the next year.
The generosity of the AT&T Foundation allowed the scholarship program to award the $100,000 in scholarships to the students.
